Default MAP sensor problems

Trying to help a friend with his LS swapped S10. Having some major electrical issues. First thing I noticed was that the MAP sensor wasnt working. Replaced the sensor, fired it up and it ran fine......for about 5 mins. Noticed on the dash that the volts are reading anywhere from 12 all the way up to 17 volts. Not concurrent with the throttle. just randomly climbs and drops as its running. Checked volts at the MAP plug and it gave a 12 volt reading. Snipped the input wire from the cpu and jumped it to a random 5 volt wire and tried again. New map installed. same result. Ran fine for 5 mins and then the MAP quit working. Any suggestions?

Just a thought...with the non-steady voltage sounds like a loose (or multiple) loose power wires. Do you have sufficient clean grounds?

There is virtually no info on here. Modified factory harness from a truck? A stand alone? Spliced into stock gauges? What alternator? How's it wired? These are just a few questions, of many I could ask.

But the fact that you have multiple issues going on, indicates you have more than likely a single, larger issue going on. I'd definitely start with grounds.

Problem SOLVED. Turns out the motor and harness are out of a 98 vette and the ecu is an 0411 out of a 2002 Trans am. A 98 Harness will only work with a 98 ecu unless you re-pin the harness to match the ecu
