Its there a way to identify the ecm by the numbers as from a manual or automatic vehicle?

I don't believe so. They typically will use one PCM for multiple vehicles and change the OS.

Read the vin from the pcm and do an rpo search on the vin, it will tell you what options and drive train the vehicle came with. It really shouldn't mater if the pcm came from a manual or automatic, unless you're interested in the tune. You can also read out the tune and see which it is

...to download the current firmware from the PCM (to find out what it is) and then upload any factory firmware that you want to use.
