Tuning for A4 Shift Corrections after Ring & Pinion Would a mail order tuner such as Frost, be able to “dial in” the shift points on a ‘00 Z28 if it had a gear ratio that they had never tuned for before? Or is tuning after a gear swap more of a trial and error thing? The reason I ask is I might need a new rear gear set and I was toying with the idea of going with 3.55’s and I know that that is an oddball ratio for the GM 10 bolt crowd, but they do exist. Will a mail order tune work for an oddball gear set or will the tuner need real-time data? I emailed Frost about three weeks ago or so but I haven’t gotten any word back yet.
HPtuners, as well as probably other tuning software, has a gear change wizard that can automatically update shift points, speedo, etc., just by inputting the new gear ratio or tire size change. As long as your original tune is good, any keyboard idiot can do it. If your original tune is not good, all bets are off.
