Recommendations for weird E40 / T42 setup?
I'll be adding an LSA and 821 heads. I'd like to keep the 4L80. The complicating factor is I have an AIM dash that I bought for another project that didn't pan out, and I'd like to use it for all of my dash in the Buick. From my reading, it seems like the only 24x ECU I can use to make the AIM work is the E40.
I have no experience with any ECU nor ECU/TCMs after the blue/green gen 3 stuff. I've been reading about people's issues programming the T42 for the 4L80e and having problems finding tuners familiar with this (relatively) rare control unit combo.
Are these problems overstated? Honestly, I won't likely be very hands-on in the tuning part of this project, and I'll likely find a vendor to build the harness for me. Am I creating a massive headache for myself by going down this road just so I can use a dash setup I've already purchased?
Ditch the E40. They are a pain, have quirks and problems that other PCM's don't have.
I'd go Holley EFI on something like this, money permitting obviously, way before I would ever go E40.
edit: I found this encouraging post on the Holley forums...
