Camshaft position sensor looped in harness?
The attached pictures in the LS1 harness shows the camshaft position sensor and the bank 2 side of the loom. The red circle is the cam position sensor and the white circle is the problem (maybe?). This connector in the white circle was connected when I started tearing the loom down, it's only disconnected because I was tracing wires with the multi-meter. The wires on both sides of the connector trace back to the cam position sensor in the red circle.
My question:
Why does the stock harness have this connector in the loom? The actual cam position sensor wires in the red circle all trace good back to the PCM.
Can I unplug this extra loop and remove the wires or am I missing something obscure?
That extra plug (white circle) was an adapter harness built in to the main harness to allow the camshaft position sensor to plug in to the engine. The plug that comes directly off the PCM did not fit the sensor on the engine and that extra harness converts it to a plug that does fit. Interesting that the factory would place that adapter in the harness as opposed to just de-pinning and running the correct plug.
