Default Help with OS

I am about to pull the drivetrain from the donor. It's a 99 2500 6.0 automatic. I was goin to disable the vats and other things before I yanked it all but I cannot find a xdf for its OS. I can't remember it exactly at the moment but it started with 9.

what OS should i put on it? Its goin to be a manual car if that matters

Thanks

Use a 2002 f-body manual.

No it doesn't matter as you still have to actually tune it.

Got you. Thanks

Speaking of tuning... it seems hptuners is what most people are using. I was looking into it hoping I would be able to use one of the j2534 boxes or other pass-throughs I have with it but it requires their proprietary one.

Should I go ahead and get it or any other recommendations as far as software to use?

I have pcm hammer and tuner pro but the vcm suite is much more user-friendly from what I have seen
