Default Ect -39

We have a 03-07 P59 ECM (Blue/Green) and we can't get the ECT's to register, it keeps registering -39. Both the harness and sensor are known good, we swapped the sensor to a test mule and validate the ECT harness (Blue 74/Blue 80) had continuity and pins were in good shape.

The ECM went thru a same OS segment swap, everything else seems good, truck starts/runs good, won't start when warm and can't get fans to kick.

What are we missing???

Can you verify that the ECM is providing voltage to the sensor? If you have a back probe, put it on the signal wire and see if the voltage is within 0.5-4 and decreasing with increasing temp.

BLK wire has 5 volt measured at sender connector.

would jumping BLK to the YEL (signal) put ECT at the top of the temp range?

Note:
Blue 80 is the BLK wire
Blue 74 is the YEL wire

I don’t believe the ECT would read at all if the wires were shorted; the ECM probably has a failsafe for that and will just throw a code. You could bypass the sensor and connect the wires together with a resistor in between of at least 200 ohms. That should put you in the upper end of the range

False alarm!

ECM had 2 bent pins in pos 80 and 40. Bent them back and she’s reading fine now.
