Badly need electrical diagnostic help!
My car is an 85 Z28 with an LS swap. Auto. It has an LS1 ECU and harness from PSI.
The swap was good and it had been running well for over a month. It was dyno tuned by Solid Tech Performance and still ran well for about 2 weeks after that. I was scheduled to take it to get an alignment the morning it died. I started it up to let it warm up for a minute and went inside to grab my stuff. It must have sputtered and died because the whole house was no longer shaking.
It has died out a couple times, probably because it loves the gas pedal. I might need to adjust the idle. Anyway, when I went out to restart it, it wouldn’t turn over. And the fuel pump was no longer priming. Worse, when I turned the key all the way off, I still had electrical power to my gauges and check engine light.
I ordered and replaced the ignition switch and tried it again. The engine would turn over when I cranked, but still no fuel pump priming. AND it still would not turn off electrically when the key was turned all the way off. The only thing that would kill power (aside from disconnecting the battery) was to pull the ignition relay.
I swapped the ignition and fuel pump relays with new ones and that did not solve the problem. I checked the ground for the fuel pump and it is good. I do not know what else it could be!
Any ideas??? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
it's usually next to the starter relay in the power distribution box.
I'm not familiar with the details of the Camaro electrical this is a generic thing to check.
There are typically about 4 relays in the power center that can cause random gremlins in the system.
Another check is the firewalll pass through connector, have been notorious since my High School days in the 70''s for causing random behaviour, you can usually take them apart and clean with electrical cleaner, brush with electrical grease and reassemble. Corrosion in the connector OR vibration wearing through the bottom of the connecter till the body sheet metal shorts out the bottom row of pins can also happen.
