Engine dies in reverse - idle questions
Working on getting my project truck running and currently have a baseline tune. Mods are as follows:
6.0 LQ4
Summit 8713r1 cam, springs, rods, etc.
317 heads milled .030
Flat tops
50 lb injectors
Baseline tune from LSX Power tuning - I had them tune it according to these mods just to get the truck to start and idle.
3200 stall
Whenever I put the truck into reverse, it dies. If I babysit the throttle, I can barely get it to stay running. What is the best approach for this? Do I need to have a full on custom tune done? I was planning on having a dyno or custom tune done eventually, but for now, I wanted to be able to drive it in and out of the garage. Is there a way to safely adjust idle to limp it around?
Thanks
The 4L60E transmission uses a very high system pressure in Reverse and the trans pump therefore puts more load on the engine.
In short, the idle tuning is very sensitive and takes time to get right.
Since @minytrker is offer phone assistance, take him up on it! You will need at least a modest scan tool to give him the data he needs.
He might also ask for the source of your 50lb injectors. If they were cheapo Ebay injectors ==> trash. Before you ruin your engine with e.g. a leaking injector.

I do have a pretty decent scan tool to see the live data, but beyond that, I don’t think I really have a way to log any of it or do anything more technical than that. That’s why I went with the mail order tune route.
FWIW, the 50 lb injectors are Delphis from a gen iv 6.0 I believe. I got them from Glenn’s auto performance
