Agent Orange: We're not sure what happended to the BCM other than maybe it got hit hard enough to damage something internal? I hope that this is the source of the problem. Maybe the RAP too?

Slow: Thanks, I couldn't ever find that gear module that the previous owner told me about. Ha. Does the windown roll down module have anything to do with the radio being powered?

Did anyone ever figure out if you can throw in a used BCM and program it for your key? Do they differ from year to year?

Just a thought I would check the RAP relay and whatever fuse powers it before I spent all that money on a new BCM and programming it. I will look tomorrow to find out where they are located.

Yes. VIN specific.

while the bcm might contain the vin, they are not vin specific for the keys on the f-car, but the key must match the resistance of the original car, you have a 1::8 or 1:12 chance of this happening.

Is there any way to tell which one will work with numbers on the unit or anything?

no, they become locked to the first key resistance they are powered up with.

But if I buy a new one, it will automatically configure during the first start up?

Anyone know the exact part number and approximate cost? THe dealer is asking for $500 installed

I'm pretty sure it has to be programmed to your car at the dealer.

That's not true. There is a small procedure that was stated earlier in this thread about how to program the new BCM for the first time.

So I can do it on my own if I buy a new one then? Anyone know the part number?

Do you know how it is attached up there, I took the panel under the glove box off, but couldn't really see up there very well. I wasn't sure how easy it would be to remove the trashed BCM and get a new one on there.
