can I put 2001 pcm in a 1999?

can I put 2001 pcm in a 1999? Is it straightforward, just move some cables around, or is it a big mess? i will have it retuned anyway, so that's not the problem, i'm talking mostly about the physical connectivity and of course, if it's reliable, i don't want some hack.
