Question Running MAF'less..

What do you actually have to do run without an MAF???

Do you actually need a wide-band A/F?

What codes in LS1 Edit would you have to delete?

Im using HPTuners so i cant tell you any LS1 Edit specifics, but im currently running MAFless in order to tweak my VE. Basically, just unplug your MAF, after a couple of starts youll throw the SES light, but dont worry. Basically youre just disabling closed loop mode. Youre still adjusting your fuel via the o2 sensors, and you can adjust your VE according to the the LTFTs. In order to to any WOT MAFless tuning you will probably need a wideband.

You will still be in closed loop with the maf disconnected. That is the only mode which updates TRIM learning.

After I posted this, I realized I was wrong. Sorry for the misinformation. Open loop is when the o2's data is disgarded, such as WOT when the o2 data is not accurate anyway (richer than the stoich range).

so if you disconnect the MAF, the car automatically switches to the MAP without totally freaking out?

You will more than likely run pig rich until you nail down your VE table. And when you are done you can have something lovely like this:

Nothing cleans up your intake quite like polished 1/8 inch thick aircraft grade aluminum!

not trying to re-invent the wheel, and if there is a guide to this, point me in the direction.

Basically, with a wide-band O2 sensor, do you lean (or richen) the entire VE table to get decent results, or do you have to go rpm/tps line by line to get close?

thanks!

I don't know why they ever wrote that how-to that included using wideband. Unless your O2s are way off and/or you don't plan on running in closed look anymore, then you should just tune your VE table using narrow-band and LTFTs. Otherwise all you are going to do is put your car back in closed loop mode, and your trims are going to be all stupid because the PCM has a different plan for your AF ratio.

Thanks, can anyone point me toward the "how-to", whether good or not?

btw, fabrication is not an issue. I'm just interested in the programming part.
