Default Should I get a tune....

Ok, my current mods are in my sig. But, I took my car in to get my Pacesetter long tubes installed and they ask me if I also wanted a tune. I told them I would get back to them on that.

Now, I only plan on adding a LS6 intake manifold sometime next year. But, I wasn't sure if it's really worth it spending $400 on a tune now with my installation of long tube headers.

check out the vinci handheld programmer. It looks like it will do everything you need plus more. And the price is almost the same as your tune. Plus you can still play with it yourself. Once you get a tune, you're done.

So, what exactly is so different than buying a programmer to tune your car or letting the shop tune it for you?

If you buy a aftermarket tuner like vinci or hypertech, you are using there generic tune. It may not do what you want it to do. If you get HPtuners or LS1edit you can tune to your hearts content. If you go to a dyno shop and have a tune done, they will tune for your present set-up and that's it you are done. If you want it re-tuned after further mods, you get to pay them again.
There is tons in here to read so search around and you will learn tons. I have.
