Default USB or PCMCIA to Serial adapter ?

Hi,
my Laptop has no Serial port. I searched a bit in the Forum, but could not get a clear statement what seems to be the best way to connect. Should i use a PCMCI to Serial or a USB adaptor ?

Any help and info is highly appreciated.

USB is cheaper, PCMCIA is better... I would go PCMCIA ... less problems than experienced with a USB adapter

Yep. I have been checking out a PCMCIA one for work. I'll do my testing on their dime. We need it anyway. I don't like USB serial adapters...they do funny things.

Thanks for all your answers.

I just came back from the PC Shop. They had no PCMCIA to Seriel adaptor, so i bought a USB to Seriel port. Installed the unit without any problem. The only thing which i had to so manualy was to set transfer data speed from 9600 (which was default) to 115200. Thats it.
Went to the car, connected laptop to OBDII port . . . worked great. Did a 10 minute scan while running the engine. No problems. Afterwards i scanned the VCM and saved it . . . Now the fun beginns.

Thanks again for your help.

Take care,

Jochen

I got my PCMCIA to Serial from Newegg.com. I just don't trust the USB to Serial adapters.
