Security light?

Default Security light?

Last summer I put my key in my ignition and turned it on like usual. So when I stopped to buy something I took out the key like usual but I only got the chip part! The teeth piece was stuck inside the cylinder. So for a couple of weeks I could turn on the car with a screwdriver. So I tried to do it myself but ended up taking off the turning thing the pice that has the button to release the key. So my security light came on. went to the dealer and they charged me $500!!!! obviously that is ridiculous so I went to a key specialist and he got the piece out of the cylinder for only $80. The question now is where can I get the parts to do it myself and will the security light go away once I do it?

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THAT then here it is
will replacing my cylinder lock eliminate the security light?

please help?

Guess I should just take it to the dealer, HUH? $500 just for that

for 500? hells no! what parts are you trying to replace, the chip in the key?

I have to replace the two little wires that connect to the plastic thing. The plastic thing is inside that push release key thing.I don't know what needs to be replaced anyway.

The lock cylinder is about 90.00 from g.m. and the replacement keys are about 25.00 a piece this our cost on these parts at the shop. So you are about at 140.00 worth of parts. It only takes about 45 minutes to change the lock cylinder and that is nowhere near worth 360.00 labor. Or the easiest way out is to take a digital ohm meter set it on the 2k scale then put one probe on one side of the key and the other to the other side and read the resistance. Then go down to rad shack or others and get a resistor of this value about 1.00 worth of cost. Then cut the two white wires in the orange tubing at the base of the steering, and solder in the resistor. Putting one wire on each side of the resistor. Tape it all up with some 3m tape and you are good to go. It now mimics the ignition key and will never give you trouble ever again.

I have three copies of the key. One when I bought it, a copy the next day, and then another one I found under the seat brackets. I guess that key was the original owners. But like I was saying if you look at the ignition switch you see the black plastic thing, it has the release switch and it has two finger things so you can turn the plastivc thing instead of putting the pressure on the key. I have that piece but behind that was two wires with two brown metal thingies, one of the brown things broke all I have is the silver lock cylinder exposed now. the black piece i have but my security light is on. please help thanks
