Default Question on Fan Turn on Temp for HPP3

I'm getting a HPP3 in the mail today and had a few questions about setting it up for the fans.

I only have a catback and lid right now and the TX heat is coming soon, so I wanted something to turn down the temp at which the fans come on and give me a little tuning availability to. I plan to go HPTuners or LS1Edit later one when I do more to the car.

The previous owner of the car told me he had a 160 Tstat put in. On the housing it says "Motorad Corp" and looks fairly new but I don't have the time or the garage space to take it out and check.

My question is if I setup the fans as outlined in the HPP3 for the stock T-stat, would this be ok? And on the other side of it, if I set it up for a 160 T-stat and it does not have that, what happens? I know that ultimately I need to take the stat out, but as said before, right now I don't have the garage or driveway space to do so.

I used the HPP3 long ago and the program for the 160 stat seemed to work. The temp gage is not correct. I would go ahead and set it up with the 160 option but I would check and make sure you do have a 160 stat. You could also just use the stock option. It would not hurt anything IMO.

I would use either the 160 or 180 T-Stat Setting. Anything is better than the stock fan temps. I used 180 Fan Temp with my stock TStat and it worked well.

Thanks Blacker, I'll do that. I'll set it up for the 180 tstat.

Why is the temp gauge wrong? I remember doing this setup on my dad's LT1 96 TA a few years back and the temp gauge dropped substantially. Is it just certain years that the gauge is wrong? Or what?

The 1999-2002 F-Bod's have a "dummy" gauge for a temp gauge. 1998 was the last year that received an actual temperature gauge. Mine moves around a lot indicating the actual temp ince I have a 1998. The sensor works fine to the PCM for the 1999+. It is how the signal is sent to the cluster that leaves the needle straight up for normal conditions. You can monitor the temp with a scanner to see what the actual temp or install an actual water temp gauge. It will fit perfectly in your AC vent, left of the steering wheel.
