simple question.is the vin stored in the pcm?
i have a 98 ls1/pcm from a camaro SS I purchased used for my project truck. I would like to track down the history of the car it came from to verify mileage and possible damage history, etc. Is there some way to retreive the original vin from the pcm?
thanks

I know 99-02 F-Bodies have the VIN stored in the PCM ... but 98s I'm not sure... I've read posts by some that have 98s and when they read it doesn't bring back a VIN for them...

The vin is in the pcm, but not in the bin file that is flashed by hptuners. They can change the vin though.
most shops won't have a 97-98 ls1 pcm bench harness, so they might not be able to do anything with just a pcm. If they can't help, you can send me your pcm and I'll pull the info off of it for you.
