Timing Question
I'm still learning the ins and outs of cams, specs, etc. and i'm just wondering what advancing the timing 2 to 4 degrees does.....and why you would do it, I kind of have an idea but I've been curious about this for sometime but never got around to asking....

if you advance the timing you are telling the spark plug to ignite that 2-4 deg (of crank shaft rotation) earlier. the fuel burn is not instantaneous so you want to ignite the air/fuel mixture before the pistion reaches top dead center, this will help to expand the gasses better before the piston travels down too much. so if your timing is set to 30* that mean that 30* before the crank gets to top dead center the spark plug ignites. so when the expansion of the gas starts the volume is smaller in the cyl creating more pressure and more power.
