Reading DTC with paperclip?

Does anyone know the exact method of reading your trouble codes by connecting two pins with a paperclip? I know when you do this, the SES light will flash and a specific pattern will tell you which code it is, I just dont remember exactly how to perform the test. Can anyone help out?

Hold paperclip in left hand. Open the door to Autozone and have them read and clear codes for free. Place paperclip back in pocket.

Seriously......I haven't heard of anyone doing it on these rides either.

Okay, thanks. I did some further research and discovered this could only be done on the OBD-1 cars.
