Default ODBII Pass or Fail???

If you remove the EGR, AIR, and REAR O2 sensors from your car and delete the codes through tuning will you pass a OBDII test only. Some members claim there are two PCM parameters "not ready", and your SES codes.

I know it will not throw a SES code if you delete, however will you pass?

Well that depend on how the OBDII testing in your state is done. I was told by the guy who performed the test on my car that as long as I dont have a check engine light, you will pass for sure.

Now that being said since they plug into your OBDII, if you disable the code, I still think you will fail cause I believe they are looking at the switching of the Rear O2s directly. If you removed your cats and disabled the code, I believe they can still catch it in the method I just described. But again thats dependant on how deep the testing computer goes into.

In GA they go as far as checking your fuel cap and how it holds and releases pressure.

You have to have it set that the SES light is set to enable, but the error type is set to 'No error Reported' or if using LS1-Edit 'Type X= turned off'.

This will still allow the readiness tests to complete, but it will not display the SES light for any errors. The OBD2 test does not check to see if you pass or fail the tests, just whether or not the test can be completed.

For the record, I have a 98 with no EGR, AIR, CATS, or rear O2's, and I pass every time. It looks like TX and AZ run the same IM240 series of emissions testing.

Hmmm... What to do then? I want to remove my EGR at least. I dont mind keeping AIR and CATS but, I really want the EGR out.

Get rid of it and set error codes p0401, p0404, and p0405, to 'no error reported' (if using HP Tuners) or 'Type X' (if using LS1-edit). Just make sure that 'SES enable = on'. This way the readiness test can run and complete, but it will never display an error. If you set the 'SES enable = off', then the readiness test will be incomplete.

Ok sounds good. I have my tunes through RWTD. I hope that they can copy what you do in HP Tuners as well as LS1 edit.

The OBD II can be made to pass the emission testing if it is plug into the outlet. For the OBD III, they are supose to make it so it will show if you turn off or bypass the codes they are testing and result in a failed testing.

it'll just be a matter of time before someone breaks OBDIII once it's out so long as they use software then anything's possible (now if the tests are hard wired/hardware ... then we're pretty much screwed )

not really, just have to throw more hardware at it. But I imagine will be a little more complicated than a $0.05 resitor to !cags.

I have the tests enabled and the SES lights disabled. John at RWTD says I should be ok.

There is always a way around something...
