Default can a GM tech2 tester adjust timing on the 99TA

I was recently told by an LS1 expert at high RMP around 5500 the pinging sound I hear is detonation.
99 TA WS6 A4 70K miles street driven car, always use amaco 93 octane every 4th tank lucas fuel treatment.

I think this pinging noise started at 50K miles when I replaced the spark plugs /NGK TR55 gapped at 50thou. except #8.

this car has never been tuned, how often should I expect to have it tuned?

will the GM tech2 tested be able to tune

I'm thinking the timing needs adjusting.

Thanks for feedback

The tech 2 can only be use to scan codes and record live data, you need a program like efi live,ls1edit or hptuners in order to change your tune.

and on #8 plug:
undo the emmision take the coil packs off then:
I got a 1/2" drive plug socket and put a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer because the 3/8 drive plug socket was to short, and not enough room for a extension the adaptor was just enough, u can doooo it man, i got fat arms and i did it lol.

THe tech can only make temporary changes to the final timing value, once shut off the vehicle goes right back. I would check all the plugs or change them again if that is when the problem started. What is wrong with #8?

The tech can determine a missfire if a cyl is messing up. That could show you the cause also.

Another route would be to get gas somewhere else.
Our amaco sucks around here. It even says that it is mixed with ethenol here..

Another thing is that the pcm is normally able to pull timing to prevent that from happening.
Have the tech check your fuel pressure and the o2 sensor readings at wot, and maybe change your fuel filter. Maybe you are just running lean.

Default can a GM tech 2 tested be used to adust timing

I have pinging nosie at hi RPMs upon hard acceration indicating detonation.

Can a GM tech 2 tester retard or take some timing out?

Thanks for feedback

No. You can monitor when the Spark Knock is occuring, but you cannot make changes to it. The Tech2 is a bi-directional scantool with flash capabilities, but its flash capabilities is limited to the TIS2000 software and the only way to get a calibration from TIS is with a VIN number and a link to GM Access (or CD subscription). Therefore, you can only put in what the General says belongs there.

To make actual changes to the spark table, you need HP Tuners, LS1 Edit, EFI Live, etc.....
