Other than for SMOG, which my car isn't going to pass in the first place, what would you recommend? Would deleting rear O2s have adverse effects as far as driveability, performance of the motor, or tuning?

 

the rear O2's are used to monitor catalytic converter effeciency. You should have no problem deleting them or replacing them with sims

 

I have used SIMMS and also have deleated the codes with software.

I think it is a cost issue since each solution works OK.

If you are going to tune the car with software (LS1Edit, HP Tuner, ect.) anyway, go with the software fix since the capability to delete diagnostic tests is included with the software package...

If you have the ability to delete them, then don't waste the money on Sims. A sim "fools" the PCM into thinking everything is OK. But you can program the PCM to ignore the signal, therefore, no Sims required.
I would say even if you don't have editing software, go ahead and get it anyway, because there is so much you can do with it.
