Default 85mm truck maf

I have an 85mm truck maf that was installed with intake and cam.
As per the instructions on starting to tune in HP tuners I set the maf failure rate to 0. I get no code and when I scan I am still getting a signal from the maf. I have tried disconnecting the maf under hood but the car will only idle but not run.
Anyone else have this happen.

At a MAF Fail frequency of 0, you are still going to get a signal from the maf because the VCM can read it. But not a problem because your VCM should go to SD mode automatically. Sometimes it takes a while for the check engine light to appear. On my vette I went 2 times with the car on the road and the Check engine light never came on when I was in SD mode, but I could tell just by looking at the LTFT histogram and just by feeling the throttle response that I was in SD mode.

set the maf high frequency fail limit to 1. this will cause the PCM to failover to SD mode the first time the MAF fails.

Better yet, 0 out the MAF table completely. That's one sure way to get into SD mode right away...the car won't know what to make of the signal.
