Default Removing MAF screen

I have a 98 Z28 that is stock except for an air lid. Is it a bad idea to remove the MAF screen? I do not have access to a tuner right now so I don't want to screw up the current calibration. I am just wondering if I can get more power/airflow by removing it without any negative effects. Thanks.

I was told tht he maf screen straightens out the air flow, without it the air entering is more turbulent and wont help performance.. thats what a gm tech toldm e at least. but there are a ton of threads you can search to andwer this quest. Speed inc wont do a tune on your car with an enlarged maf housing which tells you something...

Removing the MAF does not hurt the engine.Mine has been out for 3 years on a 2002 A4 WS6, but make sure if you port the inside that you be very careful not to damage those little wires inside the housing of MAF
