power programmer? New to the forums. Just bought an 01 z28 6 speed. Wondering what you guys think of the hypertech and superchip power programmers. Which ones better, any problems, that kind of stuff.

personally I think the Hypertech is crap... I used it before there were real tuning solutions out there.. after I got LS1 Edit years ago (I've since switched to HP Tuners) I read the HPP3 tune... (the power tune caused me to ping) and it really doesn't do much
If you have an auto it's nice for shift point changes but that's it.. I wouldn't buy one new..
If you must have a handheld then the Crane/Vinci and Diablosport Predator units are much better choices

HPP is great for '98 owners that don't have the need for advanced tuning.
I had LS1 Edit for my '00 car because it needed in-depth tuning to make the most of my setup, but since my '98 is a minor bolt-on only car, I just didn't see a need to spend the money on expensive tuning software just to change shift points and fan settings. You can get a used HPP pretty cheap (~$150). Granted, there are some better hand-held tuners out there than hypertech, but not for '98s. As far as I know, if you have a '98 your only tuning options are either the HPP or getting software for custom tuning.

the vinci/crane tuner has way more adjustability over the HPP3. i have plenty of track and dyno results to show how well it works. just using the hi-perf/stock cam tune back when my 00 formula was all stock netted me .2 and 1.4 mph. i used it to tune the wife's car after adding heads. picked up 17 rwhp.
