Default AEM coming soon for ls1

There's article on AEM Power that possibly before christmas they will be having a AEM for engine management system (ems) for 1999-2002 F-body's.

Why do you think they are going to have one for 1998's?

Default AEM EMS for F-bodies

We (AEM) are currently working on a Plug and Play EMS for the '99-'02 LS1 powered F-bodies. The PCM connector pinouts are almost completely different between the '98 and '99-'02 models. (Vehicle manufacturers seem to do this quite often and it doesn't make our job any easier.) So, as of right now, we don't have any plans to produce an EMS for the '98 model year. If there was enough interest in an EMS for the '98's, perhaps.

On the other hand, since the connectors are the same it MAY be possible to re-pin a '98 harness to work with the pinout of the '99-'02's but again, there may be other differences (actuators, sensors, datastream, etc..) that may prevent a '98 owner from doing a pin swap. Futher research would be required to see if this would be a possible route for those '98 owners that wanted an EMS on their cars.

Any developments will be posted on our EMS Forum and I'll make sure that I also post them here.

Well the benefit to offer a 98 option is
HPT offers 98 support but is pretty much limited to NA applications, FI guys have to fudge it in other ways to read boost if running higher than 2-3 bar.
EFIlive, is just introducing 98 support, but also for FI applications is holding off on any 2-3 bar developement for right now

Offering a 98 option will put you a step ahead of the other two. It would be a no brainer for us 98 guys to go with a complete plug and play unit instead of fudging stuff in the tuner to get our FI'ed cars to run OK.

So you've taken the same road as the other two, leave the 98s behind. Why not just tackle the hard work and bring out an option for us 98 owners that run FI?

Swapping to a 99 harness to use a 99 PCM is not a good option because you also have to get the 99 gauge cluster as well and various sensors....pretty expensive and time consuming to replace all that.

Thanks for your feedback frcefed98.

Since we are still at an early stage in the development, an EMS just for the '98's may still be a possibility. The more people we see showing interest, the more likely we are to produce one. I'm personally going to do some more research on the '98's to see how much additional work it would take to include an EMS for the '98's on this project. If it is only the pinouts that are different, that makes it a whole lot easier and an EMS for the '98's that much more likely. But at this point in the developmet, we don't know enough to make a definite decision.

Under the circumstances that we don't produce an EMS of the '98's, swaping pins may be a viable alternative. What I had meant earlier in this post is just switching the pins around at the PCM connector, not replacing the whole harness. (I've swapped/designed harnesses before on more than a few project vehicles and I know what kind of pain that is, trust me.) Since our EMS is fully programmable, you should be able to use any of the existing '98's sensors and actuators or even sensors and actuators of your choice (i.e. 2, 3 or 5 Bar MAP, 1600cc/min injectors, ITB's, Twin Turbos... whatever.)

the 99-02 market already has decent options out there. the 98s are left to fend for themselves. i would think that boosted 98 owners would really want this. there are a number of 98 owners on here. u might want to try posting a poll or question in the forced induction section asking about 98s

I am interested, i have a TT 427 C5R and are tired of guessing my way above 800 rwhp.

I also have a friend with three project 1998 cars and need to do something
and HPT has left us in the dark for SD tuning.

not just hptuners. efilive is the same way. chris said 98s are probably not going to get support for fi apps or 1 bar. they said they tried. no avail

I vote 98 too..

But think of it... you will have the superior product for all 98's so most likely 95%+ of the market.
