rev limiter
you will get valve float... and you will bend valves and pushrods....not a good thing.
You won't really gain any power by raising the rev limiter. Seems like most A4 guys do best with shifting at 5900-6000 with rev limiter set at 6200 (stock)

Good argument Redhard, it looks like I stand corrected
.I was mainly going off one of my friends A4 cars. I have an M6, so no personal experience. Your method and analysis looks pretty good.
Have you had any issues reving high with stock valvetrain?
once you get into peaky powerbands (big cams), then you can start benefitting from 4.33+ gears.
i don't have a stock valvetrain, so i don't know about reliability. i do know however that valvesprings are only a part of the problem, there's more to it than that, it has to do with weight.

teh issue isnt going to be if he gains any power from shifting higher...
IF he finds optimum shift points and his valvetrain can handle it..then yse..posiibly shifting higher will net him a better ET. doesnt mean he's going to gain any power...just means he might get the best use of his power
the stock drivetrain really will not handle repeated 6200+ shifts..
make it lighter..make it stronger...and the botom end is your limiting factor
there are guys spinning up to 7200 on the stock bottom end(might want to change out the Rod bolts to some better ones..)
