XD1 guys please

I tried hooking up my XD1 and had a couple problems
1. The gauge comes on and just displays "8. " and doesnt do anything further
2. I have everything installed and the get the message "please connect the device to a serial port and switch it on" when I try to run the programmer. Is my guage defective? Why wont either of my PC's or laptop connect with the gauge? Im beginning to think its defective.

no one has had probs similiar to this with there XD1. I read a post on innovates website and he sent his back as defective. I was kind of hoping this was normal. I want to get this hooked up!

either Im the only guy with an XD1 or I did get a defective unit I guess.
