Default Throttle position and downshifting

I would like my vehicle to downshift sooner than it is, or better put, with less throttle. As it stands right now, if I am cruising at 75 MPH, I have to give the throttle something like 75-80% to get it to downshift from 4th to 3rd. Is there a way I can make it downshift sooner? I have HPT.

There should be part throttle tables in HPT just like in EFI Live. In Live, the table shows TP% vs. MPH. You just reduce the MPH in the table at a given TP%....but, make sure you do it to both part throttle tables (upshift and downshift) or else the tranny will be bouncing between gears.

Are you sure I want to lower it and not raise it? It would seem to me that I would want the speed to be higher, meaning I would want it to downshift at a higher speed.

Of course, I don't really know, I'm confused on this.

Here is my Shift Speed vs. %TPS vs. Shift table:

tp% 0 6 12 19 25 31 37 44 50 56 62 69 75 81 87 94 100
1->2 13 10 10 12 14 16 20 22 24 26 29 31 33 34 35 35 35
2->3 18 18 19 21 25 28 32 36 40 43 48 53 57 60 64 66 66
3->4 35 36 37 38 38 41 46 51 58 80 91 95 97 99 101 104 208
2->1 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 11 13 17 24 24
3->2 14 14 14 15 17 18 20 22 24 26 29 32 36 42 50 59 59
4->3 25 26 27 28 28 29 33 37 42 45 50 55 60 69 80 100 100

You're right...it's been a long day already. If you want to make it shift sooner, you raise the values in the downshift table. It's saying, if I'm going slower than this MPH at this TP%, then perform a downshift. That was backwards in my head when I replied this morning. Sorry.

When I adjusted mine, I tweaked this table along with the part-throttle upshift and TCC apply/release tables. Unlocking the converter when you want a little extra power may be all you need to do instead of downshifting. You just have to play with it to get it the way you like it.

That didn't sound right.

So what changes should I make in the 3->4 upshift row that correspond to the changes I make in the 4->3 downshift row?

The upshift table is similar to the downshift table in the fact that it says if you're at this TP% and you're above this MPH, then shift into this gear. The trick is to compare the tables at each throttle percentage and make sure they're not conflicting. If they are, your tranny will bounce between the gears. Just take your time and be logical about your changes.
