best years for FI tuning?
best years for FI tuning? I have a '98 automatic with hptuners.
I'm putting a 383 with an STS turbo kit in it.
I know the '98 pcm has some issues/constraints - no 2bar support, auto tranny doesn't like mafless, something about VE tables, maf max frequency supported, etc.
The car is completely apart right now. Engine is out, dash is out. Would be easy to switch over to another year right now.
If I was going to switch to another year pcm and harness, which year(s) would be best, and why?

the actual physical parts are the same from 99-02.
the only diff between them will be minor stuff.. for example 99s and 00s had EGR.
the best software years were the last 2... 01 and 02..
what you can do is get any 99-02 harness/PCM and have someone flash it as a 02.
then you have the most up-to-date software... and you'll be set to upgrade to 2bar support...

Parish, Dieselgeek and Brains are using Megasquirt to control boost and fueling and then Hpt or EFILive for spark. Just another idea considering the MS board is only only about $250 and comes with a 2bar map with options for 3 and 4 bar maps. plus you can tune fuel in realtime.
My problem is having to pass metro TN emissions testing. They plug into the port to test the readiness of 5 monitors in the pcm... So I'm kinda stuck with a factory style pcm unless I move to another county (or make it look like I did...).
ah, you mean leave the stock pcm powered up and connected to the diagnostic port... hmmm... hadn't thought about trying to pull that one off yet... might just work.
