LS1 Edit
I have owned LT1 Edit for a couple years and just a month ago purchased an 02 TA. Been playing LS1 sponge for this perod, trying to understand what's up in this engine.
I bought Ease Daignostics for the 02, as it is the only one available that would support my Compaq iPAQ (handheld) as well as a pc based package.
It really threw me when I saw 18-22 degrees timing at wot! I though it just couldn't be right and perhaps the Ease software was just wrong. Seems, if you check out the LS1 Edit features at www.carputing.com that there is 2 timing tables, high octane & low octane (that's what they are called) and the pcm is testing timming and automaticaly determining which maps to use. In my part of the world the gas this time of year is oxegenated (sp?) and perhaps that's why, but I doubt it.
I'm told by the author of LT1/LS1 Edit that an 02 pcm can be readily replaced by a 00 pcm and therefore LS1 Edit could be used now. NE1 have experience with that? 01-02 support in LS1 Edit isn't scheduled till late this year.
Also, ne1 have some insight to torque management?
I've not had an A4 before and never cared to understand the tuning aspects for one with LT1 Edit (my 96 is M6) and now I'm wanting to understand the deeper workings of what goes on in the automatic tranny world. Seems harder shifts and higher shift points are in order.
Yes, somewhere in internet land there NEEDS to be a tuning resource for the LS1. I've been searching hard for almost a month and what I have found is very little hard information.

I think G.M reduced the timing to help reduce knock issues at WOT and also due to the new lower octane smog gas.

hey, john! there you are!! robert from portland!
let us know when you get your Edit and what you think. i sent you an email last night regarding this. i had a few questions about it. heck, i better check my email first. you probably already replied...
I kinda think GM did this to kill power a little. My old car(2000 SS) felt much stronger than my '01(stock vs. stock) but, I guess I couldn't attribute that to just the timing. It would be interesting to see how a '01-'02 car does with about 4° more timing.
I just wish LS1-edit was out for the '01 cars.

I am seeing anywhere from .4 to 1.6 degrees of kr (at each shift) which is only adding to my "wtf" attitude in learning what goes on with this thing. I'll try switching to Sunoco94 (usually run Mobil93) but perhaps I should just not concern myself untill more miles are on it and warmer weather arrives and the reformulated cleaner gas goes away.

It might not be real knock, maybe due from torque management or TCC ( if an A4)
With Ease look at Delivered Torque and TCC,see what they are doing during shifts to see if they are not tricking PCM into thinking its knock.
Your lucky to be able to get that type of octane, max 91 here in wacko Ca, but with octane your getting I would not think you'd be getting much knock unless your burning oil and have carbon buildup.

I would also like to see some expertise on this whole tuning adventure.
