Hi vs Low Octane Tables

Does anybody know when and how often the PCM checks to see which spark table to use based on knock obtained from checking the gas octane?

The PCM resets to the high table when you fill up your tank (it optimistic, figures you got the good stuff!). After certian KR critera is met (dont' know what this is) it drops to the other table.
