Help, please. Idle oscillates

Help, please. Idle oscillates Lately, when the engine is cold the idle will oscillate between about 700 and 1000 RPM's. I notice the temperature guage is also
oscillating at around 100 degrees to maybe 120.
If I try to drive the car slowly, backing up for example, it lunges.
Once the temperature gets into the normal operating range, everything is okay.
Anyone seen this before? Bad temperature sensor?
Two other people have said they have the same problem. Before I take it to the dealer, I'd like to know what the heck is wrong. :-)
