Default Anyone know what the code P1416 means on Auto-Tap?

Has anyone recieved this code before, and if so what did you do to fix it? Do I have to take my care to the dealer or can this be fixed with out taking it in? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

DTC P1416 is the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System - Bank 2.

You can check and see if the air pump, etc. is correctly plugged in and relays, fuses are working. If it's under warranty i would just take it to the dealer.

I have had this code intermittently for the last year....ever since I installed my SLP LT headers/Loudmouth. What it means (to me anyway)and according to the Helms manual (I cannot quote exactly since I do not have it in front of me)...is that at start-up the AIR system pumps O2 into the exhaust manifold and checks for a change between the B1S1 and B1S2 (and B2S1 and B2S2) O2 sensors. If it does not detect the expected O2 change during 2 consecutive start-ups the MIL light will light and you get a code. It may clear itself after a number of consecutive 'good' starts (this is what mine does!..making it harder to track down!) I guess the AIR system is to help burn the exhaust gasses more completely during engine warm-up and should not be cause for immediate concern. But if you are running very rich during warm-up you have the possibily of burning up a cat eventually (I know.... I did! But it also had something to do with bangging the cat on the ground too often!!)
It seems the first time it happened to me was the AIR gasket on the header blew as I could see black blow-by charring on the gasket. I replaced the gasket and she has been good for a while but has come back intermittently.
Another reason might be the AIR check valve, bank 2 is bad (This valve keeps hot exhaust gases from 'backing-up' through the AIR system. But probably not the relay to the AIR compressor or the compressor itself as there is another code for the whole AIR system and bank one is not showing a code for you either (or me).

If you have headers there is a AIR check-valve restrictor plate MOD out there that should keep you from burning up the check valves and throwing a code like you have.

Hope this helps!

Jeff
