I don't know all the specs on HPT, but I bet you could go to their website and find out

I just opened my HPtuners VCM editor, and looked at the task manager - 7700K
I'm not sure what the scanner uses. I know that it works with win98 though. I would either pm magnus here or email HPtuners with the specs of the laptop you're looking at and ask them if it will work.

System Requirements

HP Tuners VCM Suite has been designed to work with Microsoft Windows® 98 SE(note: not just windows 98...must be SE), ME, NT4, 2000, XP or newer.

Minimum

350 MHz CPU
64 Mb RAM
Microsoft Windows® 98 SE
Serial Port* (Version 1 Serial Interface Only)
USB Port (Version 2 USB Interface Only)

Recommended

650 MHz CPU
128 Mb RAM
Microsoft Windows® 2000/XP
Serial Port* (Version 1 Serial Interface Only)
USB Port (Version 2 USB Interface Only)
*If you are using a Version 1 Serial (RS232) Interface and do not have a native serial port you can use a USB to Serial adapter.

Use only quality USB adapters such as the SocketCom PCMCIA card adapter or Keyspan USB-Serial adapter (part # USA-19HS).

Use of poor quality adapters will result in poor performance, data corruption or Windows "Blue Screen".

Hardocp.com is to computers what LS1Tech.com is to LS1 cars. Try the [H]ard|OCP forums before you buy. I'd shoot for $200 for a 650 MHz, 128 Mb RAM laptop, but would go to $300 if I saw it in person and really liked it. Be certain that the monitor is still perfectly bright. Mine is just starting to dim and it's the highest tier Dell, I think four years old. It's a PIII 1000 MHz. I can't sell you it because it has overheating problems that I don't know how to fix.

To be clear, the $200 I said I'd offer for that computer is too much, in my opinion. I would only buy a new laptop, or one that's less than two or three years old for much less than it was when purchased. The trouble is, no one wants to sell "modern" laptops for less than $200.

Check out Dell's lowest end laptop for $500:

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...=19&l=en&s=dhs

Inspiron B120
14.1 inch WXGA LCD Display
Intel® Celeron® M 360 with 1.40 GHz/1MB Cache/400MHz FSB (You don't want a Celeron if you can keep from it, but for $500...)
256MB Shared RAM, 1 DIMM ("Shared" means the video card shares the memory. Horrible if you're trying to play video games, otherwise, no problem.)
40GB Hard Drive
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 (Terrible, but only important for video games.)
24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
Windows® XP Home Edition
Integrated Network Card
Internal 56K Modem

Great buy for $499!
