Default Knock Sensor?

SES light came on, had diagnostics done to find out what the problem was. Showed primary knock sensor failure. The shop said it was best to replace both knock sensors.

How much HP is this causing me to lose? Is it necessary to replace both sensors, or just the one that failed???

Default Re: Knock Sensor?

How much HP you are losing depends on what kind of setup and how much HP it is supposed to have. A 346ci stock motor will not lose as much from the -4 degrees knock retard compared to a 422ci 500 rwhp setup.

With a bad k-sensor, your PCM will default to a solid -4 knock retard across the rpm range at wide open throttle. Probably worth 15 rwhp on a stock motor, up to 40 rwhp on a heavily modified motor.

No need to replace both. If they are cheap you might as well do it though.
