Default Will programing cure converter shutter?

I just installed a st3800 and now when the converter locks on the highway i cant accelerate. The car just stumbles, like the converter is locking and unlocking rapidly. The only way to avoid this is to kick it down to 3rd by flooring it.But than i get going like Don Garlits, when i just want to cruise.I am sending the pcm out today, what should i have done to cure this? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I have the same exact problems. I feel ya on the fast acceleration when the converter locks up. The only way to stop the shudder is to hit the gas! Kinda stupid, if you ask me.

Mike @ Yank recommended a product called Lube Gard, www.lubegard.com . It's the red bottle. So far it hasn't worked for me. I've been meaning to give him a call and tell him it didn't work. The ST's are just major problems. Remember we're not the only ones. I'll give him a call on Monday...I'll let you know how things turn out.

I'm not sure if PCM tuning will work, but we shouldn't have to do that. Are the PI guys doing it?! No.

peace

I had that problem on my first MMS tune when I had them change my part throttle shift points. I had them change the PT shift points again and it went away. I'd start there.

Sounds to me like you are just lugging the motor - the stock shift/lockup points are very low. Like Terry suggested, I would get them set properly for your new powerband. It is more than likely not a mechanical problem, so any sort of mechanical fix will not work.

The agressive clutches Yank uses sometime shudder if the line pressure isn't there. You can program in higher part throttle line presure which may help, but doesn't guarantee a cure. You can also set your 4-3 downshift to occur at 43% TPS at speeds below 50 -60 mph (you choose based upon the speed it occurs at) or have them unlock the converter w/o the downshift at that TPS. I perfer the downshift since 4th gear is a dog.

I used 43% TPS after driving around with ATAP and reading my TPS while driving and determining when I wanted my downshifts to occur.

BTW, I also raised my upshift speeds at light throttle (6 - 18% TPS) by about 10% which makes the car feel a little less loose.

Drive around for a while and monitor your TPS (use the guages panel with medium refesh in ATAP to make it easy to see) and then you'll be able to provide very specific info to your tuner.
