Default MAFT question

Im am thinking about buying a MAFT soon, but i have a few question's first.

What is the best way to use the MAFT, my friend has a autotap would that do the job or should i just take it to a dyno.

What should the MAFT be set at??? i have no clue how to use one of these, but i know it is what i need to get every ounce out of the mods that i have done so far.

My mods are BGRA, MTI lid, ported MAF ends, a couple of free mods and a SLP y-pipe. This is on a 01 WS6 A4, my best mph in the 1/4 is 107.5 and i know there is more power there with my air/fuel set right, so any help anyone could offer would be great help to me

I would first make sure you need one? Borrow your friends ATAP, and see what your o2's timing, ltrims read. I'm betting you could probably stand a little adjustment since you got the ported MAF ends.

Does the MAFT require any splicing of any wires, or is it all plug in

you plug the MAFT in, you should mount it with screws, but I used double sided tape and its on the black cover that my lid mounts to, it doesnt move, and until it does, I'm not drilling into anything.

about where your readings should be, I really cant answer that accurately, I just got autotap myself, and am still taking logs, never started tuning.

try sorting through this forum, there is a lot of info (and reading).

Red Dragon:
When tuning with the MAFT, your first objective is to get both L-trims (Bank 1&2) as close to zero (0) as possible. For example, at idle, if your averaged L-trims are below zero you have a "slight" rich condition @ idle. If your averaged L-trims are above zero you have a "slight" lean condition.
You have to tune the BASE setting before doing anything with the WOT setting. This is crucial because if you don't you end up just chasing your O2's and hurt performance instead of enhancing it. I'll give you an example form my '98 SS. Before I used the MAFT, my averaged O2's were in the .865mv range @ WOT and I had slight pinging which hindered performance as well as Knock Retard of 3.0 degrees. I was lean. At idle my L-trims were as high as + 11. Again, this is way lean. With the BASE MAFT set on + 4% rich and WOT set to + 6%, my L-trims @ idle went to "0" and WOT O2's averaged .880mv. I picked up a solid 10 rwhp along with a PACE MAFS using this mod. Hope this helps explain some things.

Red Dragon...the L5.2 version is the "new" version. When ordering, just make sure you ask the person if it's the newer version. They should know what you're talking about. BTW, Ramchargers developed this product and you can order directly from them. If you purchase one and need some help just drop me an email!!

Thanks, I will

Another thing, I went to ramchargers site and looked up the MAFT, when reading the description it had a pic too, and after looking at the pic I see what gets pluged into and where. The question is what about the stock connections you unplug so the MAFT can be plugged in, what do you do with those, I know you just do leave them hanging. do you close them off or tie them down or what cause that worries me

The MAFT plugs into the stock connections, so no connectors are left hanging/unused. As far as the extra wire (from the MAFT unit), you can zip-tie them down if you want. I believe they also sell 3' and 6' wire extensions if you want to mount it further away.

What Gearhead said. You'll get some good directions along with the MAFT unit. It will tell you what to unplug and plug in. Read the directions carefully because inside the MAFT there are 4 tiny "dip switches". If these switches are not in the proper on or off position, it will wreak havoc on your car. I learned the hard way until John Skiba, of PACE parts, set me straight. Oh, I used vel-cro to fasten the Translator box beside my airlid and also used some black plastic wire covering to shield the electrical wires that connect to the MAFS. This is a cool and easy mod and it should really wake your car up!!
