Default Guys, help talk me into or out of LS1 Edit...

I’m having a disagreement with my tuner right now. I think they should send my PCM back and they seem to think they don’t need to. This is obviously an issue, since my car is totally useless without a PCM. Point is, I never want to rely on my tuner again to make changes since this whole mess has happened. I never want my PCM to leave my sight again.

So on to the question, I think I would like to order my own LS1 Edit, but I’m just a little concerned that it might be a bit over my head. I have A-tap and I became pretty familiar with how that operated fairly quick, so I’m wondering if LS1 Edit is going to be understandable to me. So I guess the real question is, how user friendly is it? How hard is it to learn? I’m not really interested in messing with the fuel/spark curves and the like (they seem to be great so far), but I want to be able to mess with my own shift points, DTCs, tires, gears, idle, etc... How difficult are those to program?

BTW, my tuner has been using LS1 Edit on my PCM, so if I buy a copy I should be able to go in and work with what he’s already done, correct?

Thanks for any input guys. I’m going through a tuning nightmare right now and I’ll never again feel comfortable with sending my PCM out. I need another option!

Also, is Carputing directly the only way to order? Do any sponsors carry Edit yet?

Edit is very easy to use. You just click on what you want to change, change it and save the file. Keep a back-up copy of your pcm and you can always change back.

Reading and changing the PCM is very similar to using ATAP or HPP3. Just plug it in and go from there.

You should be able to read and change your tuned PCM unless it was done by Ed Wright. He has done something to make it so that Edit won't read it.

No, EW isn’t the tuner so I should be good. When you say “make a copy of my PCM file”, how exactly do I do that? Maybe it will be more clear once I get Edit?

And you say “change it and save the file”, does save = program?

Thanks for any more input guys

Oh and again, is Carputing the only place to order directly from?

You create PCM files just like you would create a file in Word or Excel. I keep a copy of my original PCM file and then each time I change something I save it as a new file. That way I can go back to the last good PCM file and reload it if I don't like a change I made.

I'll create several different PCM files, each with a different tweak (e.g. gradually changes to A/F) and then take them to the track. I can then load a new one after 1 or 2 runs and see if I get faster or not.

Ryan,

Get Edit!! You'll save money in the long run by being able to tune it yourself, vice paying someone else a few hundred to do it for you. I still havent gone crazy with tuning changes yet, but so far its been pretty easy to use. I just post in here when I have questions. Good Luck.

Chirs (Hi, BTW ) and Ragtop, thanks for the encouragement and info. I think I will order it soon, very soon.

Did you guys order it directly from Carputing? Just trying to see if one of our sponsors can get it...

Yes, Carputing is the only place to get it now. All transactions are done via email with Dave, and payment is made on-line through PayPal. There are no phone numbers and you cant use a credit card. I set up a PayPal account to get mine. 1 week after I ordered through Dave I received the Edit cables and 3 days later Ken emailed me the program. Hope this helps.
