Default HPP3 Settings

I just picked up a HPP3 for my car along with a 160 degree thermostat. I am going to be installing them this weekend. With my current setup (see sig), what would be the best settings for me?

Set the cooling fans for the 160 tstat. Change the speedo for the 3.42's. As far as shift points, you will have to test and tune, and set them where you like it. My 1-2 shift is set at +3, 2-3 shift is +1, and 3-4 shift is +0. All cars act different though, set it to your approval. As far as the power tuning, I have track tested mine several times, and lose a tenth in the quarter with the power tuning installed everytime. My best times have always been with the stock tuning, but once again all cars are different, and some guys see improvement in the quarter with the power tuning. I left my shift firmness at stock, I've tried setting it up for harder shifts, but it seems to only shift harder at part throttle and remains the same at WOT.

I am currently using the SLP Speedo recalibrator so I shouldn't have to change that. What does changing the shifts actually do? does it hold the rpm longer or go to a higher mph before it shifts?

The shift points are changed by mph. By raising the shift point to +1 mph, you'll see some extra rpms before the car shifts. If you look in the Hypertech manual there is a table that shows you how many rpms your shift point will raise per mph. Mine is shifting around 6100rpms on the 1-2 shift. Without changing the shift points I was only seeing around 5700rpms or so on the 1-2 shift. My car seems to run better shifting at 6100. BTW, you can also use the HPP3 to raise your rev limiter, I have mine set at 6400rpms.

power tuning can be helpful if you have limited mods. lid and catback are about it (as per hypertech). that maf just might actually hurt you w/ power tuning. use it for the other stuff though i.e. tire height, governor, etc . . .
