Default "SECURITY" light on dash

ok, this has happened a couple times in the past couple days. I start the car and there is a pause before it starts. After it starts, the "SECURITY" light says lit on the dash for a couple seconds after all the other lights go off. As we speak, the car is up on jack stands so I can mess with my y-pipe. I was going to pull it up a little higher on the ramps but when I put the key in to start it... no go! The "SECURITY" light is on right now. I just tried my new key that I received when I bought it. Again, a no go. What gives???

AAAHHHH!!! It didn't start when I left work today.

Everything on the dash lights up when you turn the key, radio comes on, all power works. Turn the key... nothing. The SECURITY light stays on. After 5 minutes, it goes off and the car starts right up.

I have no idea how to even start troubleshooting this.

Anyone?

I had something similiar on my 97. It was the wiring in the (tumbler?) for the ignition key. The wires had gotten pinched in the tumbler. You couldnt even push start it cause the security system interrupted the ignition, and shut off the fuel.

one or more of the following possibilities:

Bad connection with ignition in the column,

chips in the keys are bad(it apparantly happens because mine were bad)

the light makes the car not start because it thinks someone is trying to steal it.

About $300 to fix.(Keys alone are expensive)

I tried a new key yesterday with no result. But it may have been in that 5 minute reset mode. I am just going to switch keys. Then if it continues to do it, I know it's in the wiring/steering column somewhere. Thanks guys.

Try unplugging your battery for 15 minutes.
Happened to me last year on the way to the track, looked at everything and all seemed OK,did a last ditch hope battery unplug to reset PCM,it worked.
Have done 4k miles since, security light on dash is always on but car starts no problem.
