Timing is WAY low. reasons why?!?!?! I just put in a new clutch and had my tranny rebuilt this past month, hooked an A-tap up to it and got about 3 WOT runs and found out my timing was around 17-18 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> We found out that my MAF had a sensor on it that looked burned and had carbon on it, so we swapped them out with a stock one. I havent had a chance to get any more readings with the stock one, but does anyone know what would cause low timing readouts???

Re: Timing is WAY low. reasons why?!?!?! The PCM has a function called Knock Learn.. You can adjust this through LS1Edit... After time, your computer learns knock and adjusts for it.. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU REPROGRAM IT!! This was happening on my car..We set the timing at 25,26,27,28 and it would only read 18-19 all the way through the powerband..
The computer kept reading the Low Octane Spark table, and we couldn't figure out why!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> SINCE, I didn't have any real knock, I mirrored the Low Octane Spark table with the High Octane Spark table.. Well, that fixed the problem.. We pretty much tricked the computer.. (and no,104 octane did not fix the problem) Now my timing is at 27-28.. and I get no knock.. You can do this stuff with LS1Edit..Hope this helps

Re: Timing is WAY low. reasons why?!?!?! I am trying to determine the cause of the low timing on my 98. Without HPP timing is 22max, with HPP timing is 25max. Now I suspect I am stuck in this table. Can the Low Octane Spark table be reset by pulling the fuses or putting several gallons of gas inthe tank?
Also when you have false knock will this throw you into the Low Octane Spark table?
