Default Maf flow rate??

Please help. Can someone explain how maf flow rate works in atap. As I see it, it is simply a measure of how much air is going through the maf and into the intake. But what is the correlation to other variables like HP, O2's, ect. I would think the higher the maf flow rate the higher the horse power and lower the o2's would go. What should I expect my Maf flow rate to be and what would that indicate about my car?

Default Re: Maf flow rate??

MAF flowrate is as you surmised, the massflow of air into the engine. As it increases at a given rpm hp/torque at that rpm should increase. As it increases with rpm, hp should increase - though torque may or may not.

It doesn't have a correlation with o2's. Infact under given driving conditions the o2 readings should stay the same (or in the same range) - as the computer increases the fuel based on the maf rate - to maintain a constant a/f ratio (which correlates with o2 readings). You should only see significant swings if your desired a/f changes (like at WOT, etc.).
