Default Cold Start Up?

Since I changed my base spark tables, it seems whenever I first start my car, the idle jumps up to 1800 and stays for about 5 seconds. I know that can't be good for the motor. The reason I changed the tables was for the bucking and surging when my cam went in(TR224).

Here is what the table looks like.

Too much?

Thanks,
Jason

Reduce your Initial Start Airflow. Should help.

did you already set your raf tables up correctly? with that cam, you shouldnt need to change the timing much at idle.

you will have to retune, but thats easy. What is it your having problems with and what exactly are you trying to tune? I dont get how the zo6 timing tables are lower than your stock 98 ones....i would think that the zo6 would be slightly higher even though they have better flowing heads.

When I first start the car, lets say in the AM. The idle shoots up to 1800 and stays for about 5-10 seconds. That can't be normal?

startup airflow might could go down some, but what about reducing the startup flare spark control some?

Chris

I did that, per another member of the board.

maybe I didn't lower it enough? I lowered it to, -25 and -30(I think). Could I go lower?

I will post it when I get home from work.

Thanks for the ideas...

I checked the TPS sensor before I start the car, it was at 16%. I was told it would not read 0%.

no, they dont read 0. spray it with some carb cleaner because think about it. If its on a cold start, then if its dirty, the dirt thats in there, if any has settled. Im sure its the tune, but just to be sure its not mechanical.

Blown Interceptor, Do you think you can scan this problem and then attach it here or send it to me? dsuthar@adelphia.net.

Scan the regular data as well as LTIT, STIT, Desired Idle Airflow, Spark and O2s. Try to stay under 24 so we can get more samples/sec.

I actually looked at your file. It looks like you changed your flare start up control and startup airflow?

Sending my idle start up to your email.

Thanks,
Jason

What about reducing your running airflow tables for those ect values? What are your idle trims reading after the 5-10 seconds when it returns to normal?

I did the idle Procedure twice, each time it lowered. Here is my last idle log.

Okay heres what I see right off the bat, your LTIT is maxxed out at -3.00. Your STIT almost drops to -2.00+ as well. It seems like your RAF table is WAY too high. Do this. Start from a cold start and log the Idle Desired Airflow in one of your histograms. And use the Base Running Airflow as the labels. And once you get upto almost 180F then take that data and paste it into the RAF table and try it again. Cause it seems like you are way off on that. Remember to turn your AC off and FANs off when you do the logging. And remember it will take 5mins for the LTIT to start learning so it wont take effect immediately, you will have to let it idle after startup for at least 10mins to get it to come back to 0.
