Default Is it possible to ruin your OBDII with a MAF

Hi I'm new and have a question. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I was at a mechanics the other day and overheard a mechanic telling some dude (apparantly throwing an SES code) that he may have fried his OBDII because of an aftermarket MAF. HOw is this possible? Even if the sensor is faulty, I can't see how it could FRY an OBDII. A faulty MAF sensor would just give off wrong readings (and cause a MAF SES code). Any insight? Or is this mechanic just an idiot?

Never seen anyone report that problem from a MAF.

Being a mechanic myself, im almost ashamed to hear that... You cant ruin an OBD2 system, you can ruin a PCM though.... OBD2 is just the set of standards and perameters that the PCM runs on... OBD2 is like the software.. you cant ruin that. Especially with just a simple MAF... I have all the bolt on goodies on my SS including a Granateli MAF.. No problems yet. Go smack that mechanic is the face <img border="0" alt="[fight]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_punch.gif" />

Yeah that's what I figured. There's no way a MAF can fry anything. It just sends signals. Besides. the voltage MAFs work with aren't enough to fry anything computer related. I feel sorry for the guy working with that mechanic!
