Temp gauge?
Temp gauge? I heard that there's nothing wrong with the stock temp sending unit but the gauge sucks. So could you use an aftermarket temp gauge and get the correct readings from the stock sending unit?

Re: Temp gauge? No you can't do that. The 99 and newer LS1's don't have a sending unit. The PCM uses info from its coolant temp sensor, converts it to serial data, then sends it to the gauge in that form. That seems to be why the readings are not very good. The coolant temp signal to the PCM is very precise, but by the time it is conditioned, converted to serial data, and sent to a cheap gauge, there seems to be some precision lost along the way!
You can convert to the 98 3 wire sensor, (the 3rd wire is the gauge sending unit), and use that signal for an aftermarket gauge (I don't know how accurate that would be), or just use the sending unit that comes with the aftermarket gauge and put it in the corresponding hole in the passenger side head (using an adapter for the LS1 thread).
