Default HELP! is this code normal or happen frequently!??

P1416
Well those who have read, i installed my FLPs a few weeks ago. Typical code people get was bad 02s, fixed with the new ones that werent bad, code gone.
Today driving, SES light came on, me worried, go to shop. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Pull code P1416 (Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 2), which wasnt even in his book. I heard this doesnt effect driveability, and that it would still be covered under warranty. I know ive heard stuff about our air pumps going bad i think. But WTF do i do?! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> ?
What is it, i say, what can it be?
Can it effect driveability? or the motor?

Well manifold if that's what you mean.i have a lid and GMAF...hm do you mind if i ask why you ask? In the due process of learning about our cars, i didnt know that an intake would have anything to do with the code <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> Its just a header install. But like i said, i thought that i heard the air pump/valves was a common problem!??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I was reading up on the cause of that code and it say a likely cause is due to hot exhaust gases under high load slipping past air check valve. Then as it cools it form condensation in the Air pump.

Did you put new gaskets between the header and air pipe? More importantly, did you do the air restrictor mod where you put a metal piece with a hole in the middle between two new gaskets? This saves the air valves.

I didn't do the air restrictor mod for about 300 miles and I was fine. I did purchase new gaskets as mine we're shot. This is probaly what's giving you the code; how many miles since install? If it's a ton, buy new air valves too.

The mod is simple. Trace a new gasket onto a thin sheet of metal ( not bendable ). Trace the holes so they match up as well. Then drill out the center with a hole a little bigger than the bolt holes themselves. Trace the existing center hole from the gasket but don't cut out one that size; use it to 'center' your hole.

Also, do you hear loud ticking while driving? That's the usual sign of the air valves being burned up due to the increase in exhaust flow. Thus the need for the mod.

I probably have at least 200+ miles on them so far. Loud ticking? Not that i can hear. Only ticking i hear is what sounds like its coming from the tranny when its brakeing the car around 1000 rpms. But i talked to a guy with a Impala SS and he had long tubes, OR pipes, and all that, he got the same code but had it deleted. HE is that one that said that you can drive till the cows come home with that code, its just emmisions? Is that true? and he also said that if it were the air pump, as it was with his car, its under warranty.

should i reset the PCM as many people do. Or is this like a "denial" method that youre having a problem and trying to fix it. Jus saying that if it doesnt affect driveability i can wait and drive with it till i get it checked out.
