Default Still Tuning

Couple of tuning questions as usual:

1. With the base setting on my MAFT set at 15% rich my LTtrims were always -1 or lower. With my base setting at 10% rich my LTtrims are always much closer to zero but are positive sometimes. They usaually are between -.8 and .8. Which is better.

2. My 02's at WOT are about .87 with the WOT switch at 2% rich and about .88 with the WOT switch at 4% rich. I get very little Knock Retard at 2% rich and none at 4% rich. Can I assume that if there is no KR my tune is safe regardless of my 02 readings?

Keep in mind I lost 7 RWHP with the TR MAF ends installed and the MAFT set at base 15% rich and WOT 4% rich compared to a descreened stocker with no MAFT. Granted the day I dynoed with the stock MAF housing was about 40 degrees. When I reset my MAFT I gained 6 RWHP over my previous DYNO so I know the ends will help me if I can dial in my MAFT correctly. One more question:

3. Would I be able to tune more agressively with a 160 degree stat?

Might sound dumb but I'm thinking of coming up with a safe MAFT setting (possibly base 10% rich and WOT 4% rich) and a track MAFT setting (Base 10% rich WOT 0 or 2% rich). Opinions please!!!

You are probably too rich at +15/+anything, i ran better at +15/-8% at LVD Friday, i believe my car lost power with translator, even at these settings.
I wanted to disconnect it but was afraid with out drive time i would throw settings out to lunch.I realize our mods are different but my tune goals are confused right now,and i may need to rethink them.

I would try to get away with the smallest adjustments needed.

You should not need seperate track & in-town settings

A 160 T-stat does allow for a little more agressive tuning. It may get rid of your KR at the 2% rich setting.

Thanks Guys!!!

If I move my base to 15% rich would I possibly be able to go zero WOT or even lean?

I think I'm gonna log some more runs. Like I said before my average LTtrims at base 10% rich are always very close to zero but positive. When I have the base set at 15% rich my LTtrims are always between 0 and -2. I think I might try basde 15% rich and WOT 0.

One more thing the KR I was getting at base 10% rich and WOT 2% rich was at 100% throttle but Fuel Trim Cell 13. I found that odd.

Your making some dramatic changes for the mods you have. The only big change I see you did was the MA.You have the stock exhaust, right?(no headers)
If you got the screens back in the MA,it will help on your adjustments.I pulled the screen on my 01 and all hell broke loose.Had to set base 5% richer to compensate just for that mod and got no more RWHP.

DolfanZ28 = 5.slowklr at work!!!

I think I am falling victim to false knock which is why I've been making so many changes. My LTtrims do look best with the base switch set at 15% rich though. They are always slightlty negative and pretty close to zero. At Base 10% rich they are always positive but still pretty close to zero. Right now I have set the MAFT to base 15% rich and WOT 0. I get some KR but it is very inconsistant. Most of it comes at part throttle like right around 50%. I know I have an exhaust rattle and will be getting that checked out ASAP. Do you guys think the exhaust rattle is causing false knock? Wouldn't real knock be more consistant? If its not the exhaust what would you guys suggest I check?

I had 2 pretty good races last night on 495!! In the first run I walked the guy but the second run I had maybe a fender on him. I'm thinking the car may have been pulling timing.

One more thing I've heard that the WINDOWS version of ATAP can give you phony knosk retard readings. Is this true???

Went base 15% rich and WOT 2% lean and there was a SOTP difference compared base 15% rich and WOT 0. I did have very little but some KR most being 2.1 degrees in 3 WOT runs. I'm gonna keep logging and get my exhaust rattle fixed. I'm also gonna try the DOS version of ATAP. I heard it may be more accurate.
