Default PO102 Please help the new guy!!

First all I have access to is a snap-on scanner. What can I do to check the sensor itself to see if it is bad. I am a complete idiot when it comes to this electronics and the diagnostic part of it. Thanks in advance!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

i think thats the maf low frequency code...do you still have the stock maf, if not try reseting your computer and putting your stocker back on. also check the wiring harness and make sure it is plugged in and the harness itself is good also. you could also check the 3 tiny resistors in the maf to see if they are dirty. if so then lightly clean them with a paper towel. hope that helps

Check to make sure the MAF is securely connected. Then check the sense fuse. If all is good, try a buddies MAF, it's a quick swap. If you have a scanner available, see what your MAF frequency reads.

The frequency stays at zero all the time. The car is all stock. Is there a way to check it with a DVOM to see if it is bad?

You would really need an O-scope to look at the freq.. but you could probably use the DMM to verify that the MAF is getting power. It may be that the MAF electronics have just died. Maybe someone can pipe in and describe which of the three MAF wires are which. I figure it's probably power, ground and signal? If you could verify it was getting power, the only unknown would be if the MAF was producing an output - and if it was making it all the way back to the ECM (IE a pinched wire somewhere)..

Fixed it! The pig tail going to the MAF had been replaced before and the signal and the batt+ wire were reversed!!! Hooked them up correctly, resoldered, cleared codes and now it reads correctly!!!
