Re: Need an explanation of skip shift "Skip-shift" refers to "CAGS": Computer Aided Gear Selector. Yes, all late T56 transmissions, including the 'Vette have it.
At anything less than 35% throttle input, the tranny will shift from 1st to 4th. It will strongly resist the driver forcing the tranny to 2nd, unless the driver pauses for several seconds when shifting 1-2.
The options are to punch it at every launch opportunity, or to get a device to defeat CAGS, either a cheapo resistor in the right place, or a nearly cheapo CAGS "Skip-shift eliminator". Several of the sponsors sell 'em, including Tom Byrne, Thunder or SLP.

PS: my buddies 01 Viper GTS has skip shift too...
